Gerrit Rietveld is a true Utrecht citizen. He was born on the Ooftstraat, had his furniture workshop on Adriaen van Ostadelaan and designed buildings in various parts of the city. These routes take you to all these important places.
About the walking route
Starting and ending at the Centraal Museum, the main route is approximately five kilometres long. Highlights include Rietveld’s former furniture workshop and the iconic Rietveld Schröder House. To delve deeper into the story of Gerrit Rietveld and Truus Schröder, you can add a further five kilometres to your walk. The extended route is best explored by bicycle.

About the cycling route
Smear your bike chain and cycle past Rietveld's life in Utrecht with the free bike route offered by World Heritage. Between Utrecht Central Station and the Rietveld Schröder House, you'll pass the Waldeck Pyrmontkade, where you can already admire the first Rietveld building. Near the Rietveld Schröder House is the Erasmuslaan, where a series of modernist apartments are located. From Utrecht, you cycle to Den Dolder, where you will meet the Smedes House. Finally, in the heart of Zeist, you'll stop by the Music School, which Rietveld designed in 1930.
