In the museum

With the included multimedia tour, you'll get the most out of your visit to the Rietveld Schröder House. Sound clips bring the house and the stories of its namesavers Gerrit Rietveld and Truus Schröder to life.

Welcome to the Rietveld Schröder House

We recommend arriving 5 to 10 minutes before your reserved time slot. This gives you enough time to have your ticket scanned and store your personal belongings in one of the (free) available lockers. Sign in to the Ticket Office, located on the left side of the Rietveld Schröder House. Our staff will be happy to welcome you there and provide you with a media player and a brief explanation of the tour.

Start of the tour

Once you've picked up the media player at the Ticket Office, your tour can begin. The tour takes about 30 to 40 minutes and starts outside with a description of the exterior and surroundings.

After listening to the first clip, you enter the house where you are handed slippers to wear over your shoes. The tour continues in the kitchen to the right of the entrance. On the ground floor, you can walk independently through the rooms. Then you go up where a trained guide is also present. The guide shows smart solutions that Rietveld and Schröder have incorporated into the house, such as the sliding walls and the special corner window.

Do you want to see how something works or expands? Ask one of our employees, but don't touch anything yourself. Almost everything is still in its original condition and is therefore vulnerable.

During the tour

During the tour, it is important to follow the instructions of our staff. Don't touch objects or lean against anything to protect the fragile centennial heritage. You can take photos for personal use, provided that you do not use a flash and employees are not recognisable in the photo without their permission. Our employees can invoke their portrait rights at any time.

After the tour

After the tour, return the media player to the Ticket Office and take a look at the museum shop, where you can find books, souvenirs and other unique Rietveld Schröder House products and gifts. You can also continuously watch a documentary about the house in the movie room behind the store. Ask one of our employees about this. Don't forget to take your stuff out of the locker again.

About the multimedia tour

The multimedia tour is included in the ticket price and can be picked up at the Ticket Office upon presentation of your ticket. The media players are disinfected before and after each use. A headset isn't necessary because the media players have a built-in speaker, but you can connect your own earphones or headphones if you prefer. To do this, your headset must have a mini jack. Headphones are also available in the Ticket Office.

Follow the tour via your own smartphone

Do you prefer to use your own phone? No problem! A mobile version of the tour is also available. Upon arrival, scan the QR code at checkout or check out the multimedia tour via this link and your tour can begin. You do need an internet connection for this. Remember to bring headphones and have your ticket (s) scanned at the Ticket Office first.

Languages

The multimedia tour is available in Dutch, English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Mandarin and Dutch Sign Language (NGT).
