Accessibility
Everyone is very welcome in the Rietveld Schröder House. On this page, you will find all the information you need to prepare your visit to the style house.
Unfortunately,the Rietveld Schröder House has limited accessibility for visitors withmobility impairments. Due to the building's heritage status, no physicaladjustments can be made to improve accessibility, but we aim to make theRietveld Schröderhuis more widely accessible in other ways.
Physical accessibility of the house
Both theTicket Office and the Rietveld Schröder House have thresholds. The Rietveld Schröder House is more than 100 years old, vulnerable and a unique WorldHeritage Site. For this reason, nothing is allowed to be touched in the house,with the exception of the banister. The upper floor of the Rietveld SchröderHouse is only accessible by stairs. The Rietveld Schröder House contains astaircase with relatively high steps. The stairs consist of ten steps in total,with the highest steps being 20 centimetres high. Visitors with walkingdifficulties will be helped by staff of the house if necessary. Both the Ticket Office and the Rietveld Schröder House are therefore not or very limitedly accessible for people using wheelchairs, mobility scooters or rollators.
Parking forpeople with disabilities
In nearbyGerrit Rietveldhof 55, there is a disabled car park, where you can park forfree with a European disability card. The car park is located about 80 metresfrom the Rietveld Schröder House. In addition, there is usually ample parkingin the street of the house and there is a drive-up facility to drop people off.
Free entrance for companion
Visitorswho find it difficult to visit the Rietveld Schröder House independently maybring a companion. This companion may enter free of charge. Due to the limitedcapacity of the Rietveld Schröderhuis, we recommend booking a ticket online inadvance. However, the companion ticket is only available at the ticket officeof the Rietveld Schröderhuis; you can report there with the companion. Yourcompanion is guaranteed admission regardless of capacity.
Wheelchair accessible toilets
Both the Ticket Office and the Rietveld Schröder House do not have wheelchair accessible toilets.
Pop-upstools
Foldable,lightweight stools are available for those who prefer not to stand for toolong.
Blind andvisually impaired visitors
Byorganising special tactile tours and a specially designed tactile model of thebuilding, we make the Rietveld Schröderhuis accessible for people with visualimpairments. Through descriptions, audio fragments of Truus Schröder and GerritRietveld and touching the model, the Style House comes to life. Want toexperience this for yourself? You can attend a guided tour every two months onthe last Sunday of the month.
Colour blind visitors
For visitors with red-green colour-blindness, special Enchroma glasses areavailable. Ask for this at the Ticket Office
Servicedogs
Servicedogs are welcome in the Rietveld Schröder House, provided they are fitted witha harness. Please note that the stairs in the building are very steep, so notall dogs can climb them. In consultation with our staff, it is possible to letyour dog stay in the ticket office during your visit.
Deaf and hearing impaired visitors
The freemultimedia tour has been translated into Dutch Sign Language in cooperationwith Stichting IN Gebaren. The digital video tour in Dutch Sign Language cancurrently only be viewed via your own phone and not via the devices provided bythe Rietveld Schröder House. Click on this link to access the multimedia guide.Under ‘change language’ in the main menu, you can choose ‘Dutch Sign Language’.The videos are supported with Dutch subtitles.
Invisible disabilities
Our staff are familiar with the Sunflower Keycord. This is a keycord for people withinvisible disabilities, such as autism, Alzheimer's, dementia, PTSD (Posttraumatic stress syndrome). The keycords can be purchased via the Hidden Disabilities Store.
