Challenging the future
The book Colour, Form and Space - Challenging the Future provides a detailed overview of the restorations carried out in the 1970s and 1980s. The book also discusses the principles that were established when the house was opened as a museum in 1987.
Since the restorations, which were carried out by architect Bertus Mulder (1929-2024), the house has once again become a magnificent manifesto of the ideals of De Stijl and a modern way of living. The house is one of the first examples of a restored modern monument. The Rietveld Schröder House is an important milestone in the history of the restoration of modern heritage. It is also an example of how modern heritage should be cared for in the Netherlands. This study was made possible by the Getty Foundation's “Keeping It Modern” initiative.
