What do letters between Truus Schröder and her daughter Han tell us about what it was like living at the Rietveld Schröder House?
Letters from Truus Schröder
The Rietveld Schröder archive contains a lot of correspondence between Truus Schröder and her daughter Han Schröder.
Han Schröder lived abroad for years and during that time they wrote to each other every two weeks. This went on for almost 40 years. So, you can imagine how many letters that accumulates to. These letters give us an intimate look into Truus' life and the residential history of the Rietveld Schröder House.
When the Rietveld Schröder House was closed due to the coronavirus crisis, all these letters were transcribed by volunteers. Curious about the process? Wendy Ettema, trainee heritage professional, talks about this in the video below.
The result of this is now accessible and searchable to everyone, after the publication of the book “Rietveld Schröder House — A Biography of the House”.
