Three Utrecht Icons in One Day - Come to the Rietveld Day on June 25, 2023!

This year's theme of the Rietveld Day is museum homes; designed by pioneers who were ahead of their time and who have been of great importance to the city. In celebration of Gerrit Rietveld's 135th birthday, the Rietveld Schröder House (1924), the Van Ravesteyn House (1933) and the Van Schijndel House (1992) open their doors for an open house from 11 am to 4 pm. In addition, the thematic film Pioneers of the Dutch House is shown in the garden room of the Centraal Museum.

In addition to the Rietveld Schröder House, there are many more houses where his heritage is clearly visible. Rietveld and van Ravesteyn were contemporaries and van Schijndel was inspired by Rietveld's work and ideas.

Come by for a quick look inside the homes of these three renowned architects and discover the similarities and differences! The three locations are a short distance from each other. So grab your bike and hit the road!

Especially for this day we offer a combi ticket that gives you access to all three museum houses.

Film Program

The thematic film Pioneers of the Dutch house can be seen in the garden room of the Centraal Museum from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm. The film provides insight into the Dutch residential architecture of the 20th century. During the film, twenty iconic Dutch houses are discussed on the basis of various themes: from the Amsterdam School to postmodernism, from Gerrit Rietveld to Mart van Schijndel and many others.

About the Rietveld Day

The Rietveld Day will be organized on Sunday 25 June; an annual theme day that was created in the Style Year in 2018 to honor the heritage of Gerrit Rietveld. Rietveld (1888-1964) from Utrecht is one of the most important designers of the 20th century, who played an important role within De Stijl. He was an idiosyncratic furniture designer and the creator of the famous red-blue chair. He has also earned his spurs as an architect: with the Rietveld Schröder House he provided De Stijl with a world-famous icon.
